Award Id: IGBR96| Category : Young Achievers
Jamnagar police will be joined by 22-year-old Mr. Hasan Safin, a Gujarati and the youngest IPS officer in the country, who will taken charge on December 23 as the assistant superintendent of police. Coming from humble origins, Safin hails from Kanodar village of Palanpur and is looking forward to serve the society and the nation through his services. Safin cracked the Union Public Service Commission exams with an all-India rank of 570 last year. He qualified to become an IPS officer, but wanted to be an IAS officer. In a telephonic conversation with TOI, Safin said, “I appeared again but could not clear the exam. Hence, I decided to pursue my career as an IPS officer and will use this opportunity to serve my country.” Son of Mustafa Hasan and Naseembanu, both diamond workers in a small unit, Safin had to struggle for his education. The family’s meagre earnings could hardly suffice other needs, let alone pay fees for Safin’s studies. But Naseembanu also took up rolling chhappatis for local restaurants and marriage halls to earn extra money to fund their son’s higher education. Safin was lucky enough to also get the support of businessmen and the society in general to pursue his dream, and prove his worthiness. India Glory Book of Records acmailed his recognistion as youngest IPS of the country.
